About

Allison Chase is a cosplayer renowned for her impressive large-scale creations. Since 2018, Allison has been pushing boundaries with her cosplays, each project testing new limits of what can be considered a costume.

Among her notable works are the Power Loader from Aliens, Snowball from Rick and Morty, Catbus from My Neighbor Totoro, Decayed Guardian from Legend of Zelda, Cart Titan from Attack on Titan, and the majestic Appa from Avatar: The Last Airbender. These larger-than-life cosplays not only showcase her craftsmanship but also integrate puppetry, adding a dynamic and interactive element to her creations.

Incorporating a variety of techniques, Allison's cosplays feature needle felting, woodworking, sewing, foamwork, LEDs, music, PVC bending, sculpting, and faux finishes. Each element is carefully chosen to bring these characters to life on a grand scale.

Integral to Allison's creative process is her collaboration with a local Makerspace called MAKERFX. The support and resources provided by this maker community are crucial for such ambitious builds. Working alongside fellow makers, Allison finds inspiration and technical expertise, highlighting the collaborative nature of her projects.

Through her documented builds across social media, Allison not only shares her passion for cosplay but also encourages others to explore their own creative journeys. Her work stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and the limitless possibilities when a community of makers comes together. Q&A

How did you get into cosplay?
The "Halloween Costume" to "Cosplay" pipeline is a slippery one. I've always liked making costumes, which eventually led me to the cosplay community.

What inspires you to cosplay a character?
It tends to be whatever pops into my head and doesn't go away. An Idea will wriggle its way into my brain and stick there until I've made it.

What advice would you give to someone new to cosplay or wanting to get into it?
Don't wait to be good at something before you start. Use the project as a way of learning a new skill. If you wait until you're at the skill level you think you'll need, you'll end up waiting forever.

Who are your inspirations for cosplays? Makers, cosplayers, artist?
There are so many professional costumers, prop makers, puppeteers, and cosplayers from whom I am constantly inspired. I spend a lot of time on the internet and constantly log little bits of projects or techniques into my brain to use later.

What do you do with old cosplay?
I SHOULD sell it or wear it as often as I can, but other than occasional guest appearances, it mostly goes into storage.

Whats your favorite cosplay memory? Favorite con? Winning the Masters Division at the Megacon Cosplay contest was especially rewarding as it had been a goal of mine for years.

What are you most excited about in Making Legends:Cosplay Culture?
Sharing my cosplay and hoping to inspire other makers to be a little bit crazy with their next project.
