About

Susie is a part time Cosplayer, full time Professional Geologist, Wife, and Mother. She got into cosplay because Halloween costumes did not fit her 6’0” frame, so she learned to sew and create with EVA foam and other materials. The focus of her cosplay career has been inspired by superheroes of the Marvel and DC Universes. Attempting to replicate movie and comic costumes with screen accuracy and detail is her passion. She has won multiple cosplay contests, including a Master Craftsmanship award, as well as an official DC Fandome contest. Susie is an active participant in the Real Okie Superheroes, a charitable organization visiting children's hospitals and nursing homes. Q&A

How did you get into cosplay?
I started making Halloween costumes for myself to fit my height. One year, I discovered the vast knowledge and skills of cosplay building. I went to my first con dressed in a costume and never looked back.

What inspires you to cosplay a character?
I love seeing strong, powerful women in movies and in intricate costumes.

What advice would you give to someone new to cosplay or wanting to get into it?
Choose a character you absolutely love. If you haven't made a costume, buy it or thrift it. If you want to build a cosplay, explore the vast recourses of YouTube tutorials.

Who are your inspirations for cosplays? Makers, cosplayers, artist?
My biggest inspiration is Kamui Cosplay, whose videos taught me so much of my crafting skills. Comic artists also inspire me!

What do you do with old cosplay?
I have sold a few old cosplays to others for continued use. But I haven't gotten rid of many.

Whats your favorite cosplay memory? Favorite con?
My favorite cosplay memory was getting to hang out with one of the biggest cosplayers in the World, Alyson Tabbitha. I finally got to meet her in person at Holiday Matsuri Con in Orlando, FL, and we did a small photoshoot as Wonder Woman and Antiope. I will always cherish her kindness and awesomeness.

What are you most excited about in Making Legends:Cosplay Culture?
I am excited to see the various techniques, materials, and quality work of cosplay makers!
