This fall, the Firehouse presents Dale Dale Dale: The Art of the Piñata, a vibrant exhibition celebrating the creativity, craftsmanship, and cultural significance of one of Mexico's most beloved artistic traditions.
Featuring the work of Piñatas Aylin, this exhibition explores the piñata beyond its role in celebration, revealing it as a sculptural art form rich with storytelling, technical skill, and cultural heritage. Through a collection of handcrafted works, visitors will discover how paper, color, texture, and form come together to create objects that embody joy, memory, community, and imagination.
From playful characters and animals to intricate custom designs inspired by personal stories and cultural traditions, Dale Dale Dale showcases the artistry behind each handmade creation while honoring the enduring legacy of piñata-making.
About the Artists
Piñatas Aylin is a collaborative artistic project created by Mexican artists Mayra Reza and Rafael Salinas. Together, they reinterpret traditional piñatas as sculptural works of art, blending cultural heritage with contemporary creativity.
Rafael Salinas previously worked with the Department of Art and Culture in Mexico, where he helped develop and teach traditional artistic techniques. His experience fostered a deep commitment to craftsmanship, cultural preservation, and artistic education.
Mayra Reza specializes in the design and construction of artistic piñatas, bringing a keen eye for detail, color, and visual storytelling to every piece. Her work focuses on transforming familiar forms into meaningful objects that celebrate identity, family, and memory.
Using traditional papier-mâché techniques, layered paper textures, hand-painted details, and carefully engineered structures, Piñatas Aylin creates works that move beyond decoration and become expressions of culture, creativity, and celebration.
Their guiding philosophy, The Shape of Celebration, is reflected throughout the exhibition.
